The
best-known Confederate flag was the Battle Flag, or "Southern
Cross". The Battle Flag was designed due to the fact
that the "Stars
and Bars" was so similar to the "Stars and Stripes" .
This Battle Flag was agreed upon. Other flags such as State
regimental colors were used by the Confederacy on the battlefield,
but the Battle Flag, although it was never officially recognized
by the Confederate government, came to represent the Southern
"cause" to most people.
The square Battle Flag was carried by Confederate troops in the
field which were the vast majority of forces under the
confederacy.
Used as a navy jack at sea from 1863 onward, the rectangular
Battle Flag
pictured above has become the generally recognized symbol of the
South. Many recognize the Battle Flag from the
Dukes of Hazzard.
The Battle Flag was painted on the top of their car. The Battle
Flag
has also appeared on several southern state flags at one time.
It continues to be a part of the Mississippi state flag.Put the
